A native of Waukegan, IL, Auxiliary Captain John Gantner served and was a member of The Salvation Army’s church there. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving eight years at various locations from England to Hawaii. In Hawaii he met his future wife, Auxiliary Captain Tracy Gantner and, after a two year long distance relationship and fulfilling his service with the U.S. Army, they were married in Minnesota. Their daughter, Francis, born in 1990, is currently a licensed counselor on the East Coast.
A/Captain Tracy worked in the Optical Industry for over twenty years, which moved them to Kansas City and, later, Chicago. A trailblazer for women in the optical industry, she was recognized as a Mentor in Vision Monday Magazine as one of the most influential women in the optical industry.
Captain John’s current journey began in his work at The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Chicago, transitioning to a more extensive role with his service as Assistant Director of Operations for the six territorial Kroc Centers (including Omaha) at the Central Territory’s Headquarters. His passion for The Salvation Army and mission trips led him to serve on seven global missions’ team trips, which included construction projects in Haiti and Kenya. During the same time, Captain Tracy demonstrated her passion to provide prescription eyewear, traveling to and implementing programs in underdeveloped countries such as Jamaica, Sri Lanka and Turkey, also working to provide vision care to children in Haiti.
Driven by a love for people and dedication to serving God, the Gantner’s were amazed at how God can use them and answered the call to ministry as Auxiliary Captains assigned to The Omaha Salvation Army Kroc Center. Their charter is to lead the continued growth and development of the organization and to inspire the continued commitment to achieving The Salvation Army’s mission through the ministry of The Kroc Center.
Kroc Church relies on volunteers to help with Children’s Ministry, Sunday Service, outreach events and more.
